The zoo continuously contributes to the conservation of endangered animal species. Almost 400 different animal species participate in the European Endangered Species Conservation Program across Europe, including Rothschild’s giraffe and other species in the Lithuanian Zoo.

For several years now, the zoo has been successfully participating in projects to increase the number of endangered species in Lithuania – European pond turtles, Eurasian eagle-owls and lynxes. Zoos play a very important role in contributing to the preservation of rare animal species, as rare animals in the wild may become extinct if certain measures are not taken.
